A philosophical visual allegory where light, shadow, and illusion trade places.
"Plato’s Cave Revisited" is a captivating (please excuse the pun) reinterpretation of the famous allegory, transformed into a "shadow theatre." Created by the artist duo Furst_Ori, this piece explores the thin line between reality and perception, observer and observed.
By suspending an airbrushed acrylic element within a minimalist steel frame, the artists have created a work that breathes. The chained prisoner forced to watch a theatre of shadows himself becomes the source of the shadow theatre. The society of the spectacle becomes the society of the self spectacle.

The Interaction: A Visual Philosophy
This sculpture is designed to be an interactive experience of light and depth:
-
Suspended Motion: The airbrushed element is hand-painted on clear acrylic and suspended by a fine thread, allowing it to move almost imperceptibly with the air in the room.
-
The "Trading Places" Effect: When illuminated by a spotlight or natural sun, the painted form and its cast shadow interact dynamically. What appears to be the "free" figure is revealed as the source of the shadow—a direct nod to Plato's prisoner.
-
Transparency & Depth: The clear acrylic allows light to pass through the pigment, creating a soft, ethereal projection that evolves as the light source shifts.
Why This Piece is Unique
-
Airbrushed Artistry: Unlike printed elements, the central figure is hand-painted with an airbrush, ensuring each edition has the subtle gradients and textures of a true original painting.
-
Strictly Limited Series: Part of an exclusive run of only 12 sculptures, each signed and numbered as a unique exploration of the theme.
-
Minimalist Architectural Frame: The steel structure provides a clean, modern anchor for the "suspended" narrative, making it a sophisticated fit for galleries and curated home offices.
The Craftsmanship
-
Hand-Painted Acrylic: Each central pane is individually airbrushed on high-grade clear acrylic to achieve a sense of weightless depth.
-
Artisanal Steel Welding: The 16x16 cm frame is hand-welded from steel, providing an industrial contrast to the delicate painting within.
-
Precision Suspension: The internal element is carefully balanced using fine-gauge thread to ensure a responsive, kinetic quality.

Legal Notice & Artistic Nature
This is an original, handmade work of art, produced in a
limited series and intended for collectors and decorative display purposes
only. In the interest of full transparency and the safety of our collectors, we
provide the following information regarding the correct handling and
preservation of the artwork.
Intended Use & Environment
- Indoor
use only. This sculpture is designed exclusively for indoor decorative
display. Exposure to outdoor conditions — including rain, moisture, frost,
or high humidity — will cause corrosion of the metal components and
degradation of the acrylic elements. - Not
a toy. This is a professional artwork and is not intended for children.
Please keep it out of reach of children and pets at all times.
Material Hazards & Handling
- Metal
components may include intentional sharp edges, points, or delicate
structural details inherent to the artistic design. Handle with care
during unboxing and placement to avoid injury or damage to the piece. - Acrylic
elements should not be subjected to excessive pressure or impact, as they
may crack or detach from the metal frame. - Stability:
Place the sculpture on a flat, stable, and sturdy surface capable of
supporting its weight. Avoid high-traffic areas where it could be
accidentally knocked over.
Maintenance & Care
- Cleaning:
Use only a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Never use alcohol, chemical
solvents, or abrasive products — these will permanently cloud, scratch, or
crack the acrylic surface. - Heat
& light: Keep away from open flames, candles, and direct high-heat
sources. Prolonged exposure to intense heat or direct sunlight may warp or
discolour the acrylic components.
